About Us |
The Essex Branch was formed in 1985 to help and assist all in Essex who have, or are about to undergo surgery which results in the formation of a urinary stoma (urostomy).
Diversion of the urine may be necessary for a variety of reasons - cancer of the bladder, recurrent infections, congenital conditions such as spina bifida, neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis and trauma to the pelvic organs or spine.
If the problem is cancer, the bladder will probably be removed. In other conditions where the bladder is not working properly, it may be by-passed.
We aim to improve the quality of life for the Urostomate and those that care for them.
We hold four meetings a year in various parts of the County, currently two at Ardleigh House, Hornchurh, one at the Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, with a fourth in South Benfleet or Colchester.
The Association Journal is sent out Three times a year along with a newsletter keeping memebers up to date with information at both national and local levels.
We like to think our meetings are informal and friendly. Of course there is always a certain amount of business to deal with but this is taken care of quickly to allow members to chat and get to know each other and also to ask questions.
